Mostly Original, Solid, Stylish, Survivor, Stock Configuration

You might see Model A’s and T’s often, but Pontiac Touring Sedans are fairly rare. One thing that is really nice about this car is that so much of it is original, but yet it has survived in pretty good order. Its just a good looking, strikingly different, older original car, and pretty much the way it was built. The very earliest 30’s cars where not much for being driven on the highway, but by this time size &with this power allowed you to take 4-6 people in a far amount of comfort to the ice cream stand, or a long tour. The black and bright work is very striking, with the red striping. Its a real talk-about piece, and a car that has 80 plus years of stories of being enjoyed. You can say someone from 1937 had their hand on that, or sat in that seat, or turned that dial.

Current owner has enjoyed car approx 30 years. He bought from a car collector in the local area but for 50 years prior to that the car must have been particularly kept out of

inclement weather. It is amazingly solid underneath. Oil changed yearly, or more often. Repairs as needed, including water pump, fuel pump, and manifold gaskets.

DETAILS OF CAR:

* Heater

* Emergency brake

* Spare tire

* Wide white walls

* Horn

* Radio

* Rear shade

* 12 Volt conversion.Dash fan is not included in sale.

Paint-

* We do not know the exact age of the paint, or the type thought we would expect with the way it has aged it appears that it could be an original lacquer paint.

* From 20 feet away it really looks to have a nice shine on it, thought it does show some age and deterioration when you get up closer.

* With the contrast of the black paint against all the chrome, this car is very attractive.

* Look very closely, and even en-large the pictures as a good way to get and understand the paint and its condition.

* There are what appears to be light nicks near the headlamp bezels, and various small chips on pretty much all the panels of the body. All panels do have a nice shine to them, but there is no question when you get up close there are nicks primarily on the fronts and tops of the front fenders as well as a few on different panels. Under florescent light you can see that the nick are around the edges of the hood, doors, and top of the right fender. There is also some thin spots that are just from age and wear. There are also some spots where it appears to have light bubbling of an older paint that is on the top of the hood, bottom of the cowl, the roof, and on the fenders. This can be typical of original or just older paint. (See Pics)

Body-

* The hood, top, and the trunk all appear nice and straight. We do not see anything that would be much different than when the body was produced new.

* When we look down the side including the doors and side panels of the engine you see one little dimple in the right side passengers door. (See pics) The left side including doors, and side cover on the engine all looks straight.

* The fenders all look nice and straight, with the exception on the left rear fender there are a couple of spots that I think are paint related but its possible its a little deviation in the paint & fender ( Left rear fender just ahead of the taillight). (See Pics)

* In some area there are a couple wavy spots almost undetectable but they do exist on the right rear fender. (See Pics)

* The fits of the hood, trunk, and doors all look pretty uniform all the way around. On both sides with the doors locking on one pillar there is a little larger space between them, but it is like that on both sides, so it’s our guess it was made that way.

Magnetic Paint Gauge-

* In taking several random measurements on each of the body panels on the car, we verified they are all of steel construction.

* The owner had indicated he believed mostly all original paint, and upon our assessment on the top surfaces being the hood, top, and trunk area. We found fairly consistent readings of 4-6 mils of paint, that would be consistent of an older lacquer paint.

* The sides, the doors, and excluding the fenders, measures slightly higher more to the 6 mils range. We measured closely in areas typical for repair which would not indicate any repairs, or at least any major repairs in that area.

* The four fenders also measured consistent with the sides, with exception of the front fenders indicating a higher reading of 10 mils which would indicate some repaint on either the front portion or possibly the entire front fenders, which would be consistent with road use and wear.

* Our random samples did not find any areas of large amount of repair, or filler in typical areas.

Bright Work-

* Between the bumpers, and the bright work on the hood and trunk of this car, it really does stand out as a very attractive sedan.

* It looks as thought all of the bright work is fastened properly, and in place. Just like the paint from twenty feet or more away it is quite attractive, and shines. As you approach it you notice the front bumper has nice chrome, but a little bit of wear and light scratching.

* The grill and louvers of the grill have lost most of its reflective quality’s however the strip that runs down the hood, trunk, and Pontiac hood ornament have light pitting but still has a nice shine. As do the door handles, rear bumper, and trunk hinges.

* As typical the windshield wiper mounts have pitted pretty well over the years, but still retain some shine and are well secured.

* On each side of the cowls is the Fisher Body emblems.

* The piece that runs between the two front windshields is in nice condition

* There is nice shine to the vent window surrounding moldings, however the back portion is fairly pitted as well as the window surrounding piece.

Glass-

* Most of the glass has the original Safety LOF emblems, which appears to be older pieces and may well be original to the car.

* The exclusion of that being the right windshield half, which also looks like older glass, but some of the separation may have caused the emblem to not be detectable. The same is true with the passengers vent window.

* Both rear door glass appear to be of a newer glass, and does not include an emblem so believe those where replaced some where along the line.

* It looks as thought you may see some discoloring in the glass on the center outside edge of the windshield, both front door glasses, and a small amount on the rear seat vents. (See Pics)

* We do not see any bulls eyes, or cracks in the glass.

* Windshield panels do have some light wiper marks.

Interior-

* The owner indicated, and believes that the entire interior is original, with the exception of some OEM replacement materials. The front seat was becoming worn so he was able

to find OEM material, so he could have the front seat recovered. In looking at it, it looks as though the seat back, and bottom where reupholstered with the new material as it is slightly lighter in color than the other.

* The headliner appears to all be intact. There are a few seams above the driver and passenger, as well as a few other that have had some sewing work over the years. There is some light staining above the right rear window, but over all it is all there and secured.

* The sun visors all have a good hard backing, and the sewing is all in place.

* The kick panels on the driver, and passenger side where also restored at some time.

* The door panels, front and rear look very much as they could be originals.

*The remainder of the seating materials look as if they where not replaced, and could be originals.

* The back does have an older carpet that look as thought it certainly could be original.

* Other than a modern keys chain, everything on the dash looks as thought it certainly could be original. The exception of the steering wheel cover that was installed at some time.

* The faces of the gauges, the backings, and the lens look as if they could all be original.

Trunk-

* There is a spare tire as well as what the owners believes to be the correct jack, and lug wrench.

* You can see its condition in the pictures, and how smartly they have designed the shelf area to separate storage from the spare.

Tires and Wheels-

* BF Goodrich Silvertown

* The tires and wheels are a wide white wall with a black rim that includes a painted red stripe on the rim itself, and a shiny trim ring on the outside edge of the wheel. Then a chrome Pontiac center cap that covers the lugs.

* We do not know the exact age of the tires, but there is some light cracking that exist on some of them.

* The rims appear to be fine without damage, with the exception of being a little dent in the right front that you can see a picture of. (See Pics)

* The black and red paint is very attractive, but has had some light red touch up, and you can see its an older paint and shows some age.

* The right and left rear caps have a few little dents, but they look pretty presentable over all. (See Pics)

* The white wall on the left and right front have a little curb scuffing. (See Pics)

* Left Front- 6.00-16 Tread remaining- 8/32

* Left Rear- 6.00-16 Tread remaining- 6/32

* Right Front- 6.00-16 Tread remaining- 6/32

* Right Rear- 6.00-16 Treading remaining-6/32

Engine and Transmission-

* When you look under the hood you will note that it looks like its pretty much as was designed and built new. Of course you will see a couple of wires that have been replaced, and some tubing that looks updated. You will see a fairly recent fuel pump, and filter that where done. You can see newer hoses, newer plug wires, and spark plugs.

* There is a little dampness from the carburetor that may, or may not require some attention.

*Looks as maintenance items have been taking care of over the years.

Chassis-

* Chassis is amazingly solid underneath! You are seeing it just the way it naturally is, and has been. With the exception of maintenance or repairs.

* You will see light surface rust, but we are not seeing rust perforation.

* Looking at the frame from where it runs from the front suspension all the way to the back, we do not see any rust perforation on either side going from the rear bumper all the way back up to the front suspension. Even the cut edges on the steel are not corroding much if you look closely at the pictures.

* The running board supports where typically light gauge metal, and would typically rust fairly easy because the water would be splashed up from the tires. They all look good and solid, without perforation.

* Looking carefully at the floor where it is on either side of the transmission, and going back I do not see any spot where there is obvious rust perforation. That includes going back to the very back of the floor pan, and even a limited amount of surface rust on the gas tank itself.

* I like that it does not have any rust proofing or paint hiding anything, and you can see it in its natural state.

* You will see cobwebs, and a small colony of bees must have made its home for a short time in the back, but if you look in the front you can see that the links where replaced. You can see that the front suspension, and as you work your back you can see that it has been greased in the front end. You will see that there is seepage at the bottom of the pan, and a partial drip just buy the replacement oil plug. The transmission does not look to be dripping anywhere, but you will see that obviously rear end grease has seeped out over the years.

* Fairly new battery had been installed, and you will see the carrier has a little rust damage on the bottom.

* The exhaust looks good and solid, however it is probably not the original.

* You will see more recent brake lines, both rubber and steel running into the back where it has been replaced at some time.

* You see a little bit of oil throw off on the bottom side, or the rear floor which I think is just seepage out of the rear end.

* You will see new shocks in the back, as well as shackle repairs.

* Looking in the front there is a different type shock.

Test Drive-

IN driving the car it started up easily, and accelerated as appeared to be correct. It actually requires almost no gas pedal at all to be applied when releasing the clutch, and I think that is because it such a large 8 cylinder engine. The clutch seemed to operate just

fine. We where able to up shift, and down shift through all 3 gears, and they seemed to operate just fine. I do not find first gear is synchronized. Steering seems to work properly, and of course thin Bias build tires requires a little bit of steering wheel movement to aim this vehicle down the road, but that is typical of how they would have been in the day. Upon applying the brakes it seems to stop smoothly, and did not seem to pull incorrectly to one way or the other, and seemed to work fine. Exhaust Smokes for the first few blocks, then mostly quits ( engine oil smell)

Mechanical-

* Emergency brake does work

* Both Headlamp high beams, and low beams work

* Taillights work, but only left side brake light works when driving lights are on dim

* License plate light works

* Windshield wipers work, just one speed

* Horn works

* Converted to 12 volts, does have an alternator that is used

* Gas gauge works

* Oil pressure gauge works

* Temperature gauge works

* Speedometer works, per owner

* Generator light does come on if not charging

* Radio and clock do not work

* Vent does open and close

* Heater works, and fan operates on multiple speeds

* Door unlock mechanism works from the inside of all 4 doors

* All four crank windows work

* Both rear vent windows open and close correctly

* Rear shade works(See pics)

* Interior dome light works

* Adjustable front seat works, and slides front and back

* Ignition Key does not work doors, or trunk
